The works comprised the striping out of the existing areas and remodelling to suit modern care pathways and current standards.  During all these works the existing service level had to be maintained.

These works were funded on the basis they would be fast tracked in order to complete prior to the start of the Olympics in July 2012.  BAQUS worked extremely hard to ensure that this project was completed on time and under budget.

BAQUS played a key role in Value Engineering the original Tender value down to get the contract sum within budget whilst maintaining much of the original scope and specification.

During the construction process a significant cost reduction was achieved through collaborative working and risk management.  This saving can now be used to help fund other work for the Trust within the hospital to improve patient care.

BAQUS’s role in these schemes has been as cost advisor and contract administrator using the NEC Target Cost Contract.  To this end BAQUS have managed the project risk registers and chaired regular risk reviews and workshops at key stages of the projects.  We have carried out monthly valuations based on the Contractors actual costs and provided audits of accounts. 

We have developed a cost reporting model that tracks all changes and potential changes together with details of the risk profile.  This allows the client to see at a glance and in one document what the current financial status of the project is and what impact any proposed changes would have. 

We have also worked with the Trust and the NHS VAT advisor to determine the level of VAT recovery the Trust can achieve against each scheme and this is factored into the cost reporting so that the project can achieve the maximum benefit from the VAT recovered.
