Completed in spring 2011, this project has already been awarded BREEAM Excellent and is being put forward for a series of design and sustainability awards. As cost advisors, we have put forward innovative sustainability solutions whilst retaining exceptional value for money and robust adherence to our client’s budget.
The three-storey building with atrium has been designed as a zero-carbon exemplar in sustainability, in a manner which is clearly demonstrable to the students and is intended to act as a powerful teaching aid.
Technologies include a biomass boiler using wood pellets from local sustainable sources, full rainwater harvesting, automatically controlled natural ventilation systems and additional LZC (Low/Zero Carbon) technologies.
Powerful external building elements include curtain walling, terracotta and aluminium, complemented by zinc rain screen cladding panels with aluminium windows and external doors.
